Posting to forums, blogs, social sites, article posting, video upload sites, all using an anchor text with a link back to your website will help to increase traffic. To increase the organic traffic from search engines, make sure your site is SEO optimized, great content and create plenty of backlinks and you will pick up traffic from the search engines.

All of the previous suggestions are great. Now that you've commented, submitted and optimized you need to keep track of those traffic building efforts. Google has an interesting new tool Insights for Search @ http://www.google.com/support/insights. Check it out.

The content of the web pages also plays important role in SEO exercise. I focus more upon: Press releases, Reciprocal Links, Forum Posting, Post newsgroups, Article submission, commenting upon do-follow blogs.
